If appeased there is nothing that Lord Shiva can not give to his devotees. The knowledge of Puranas is considered as important as the warmth of Sun God or the tranquility of Moon God. They actually used to practice penance here and survive on raw vegetables, Kanda Moola Phalas, raw fruits or roots, but reading or listening to Puranas, especially Shiva Purna benefits a devotee multifold times than to practice penance. In earlier days students used to stay in Gurukulas and learn vedas under the strict guidance and observation of a Guru. Religious scriptures talk about scores of ways to pare down or eliminate sins which eventually pave the way to attain salvation. Jnana samhita consists of seventy-eight chapters, vayaviya Samhita thirty, kailasa samhita twelve, vidyeshvara samhita sixteen, Dharma samhita sixty-five and sanathkumar samhila fifty-nine. Vāyaviya Samhita (further divided into 2 parts, Pūrvabhāga and Uttarabhāga)Įach Samhita is further divided into chapters(adhyaya).Each samhita has a name and they are as follows. Originally it consisted of 100,000 verses set out in twelve samhitas (books) which was later abridged and composed by Romaharshana. However, it primarily revolves around and glorify Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, but revers all gods. It consists of 12 samhitas and 1,00,00 slokas (verses). The Shiva Puran is dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the prominent and famous puranas.
